In kindergarten we use a behavior plan where your students have the chance to move up and down for positive and negative behavior. Every day all students will start on green in the "ready to learn" position. During the day they have chances to move up on the chart but they also have chances to move down depending on their behavior. The biggest thing I try to make clear to the students is that being on green is good! If a student doesn't make good choices or moves down the behavior chart for any reason they will always have the chance to move back up. They will not stay on one color all day long if not necessary. The red on our chart means "parent contact." I will usually email you of the reason why your student is on red unless the reason is bigger and deserves more than an email. The orange stands for "teacher's choice" and this will usually be me taking away 5 minutes of recess time or perhaps something more drastic depending on the behavior. The yellow means "think about it." This just indicates that the student has been warned about their behavior and to think about what right choices they can make to have their clip moved back up the chart. The green is "ready to learn" and this is where every child will start every day. This means the student is doing everything they are supposed to be doing. The blue means "good day." This indicates that your child has perhaps done something nice for a friend without being asked or done a good deed in class. The purple is "great day" and with this color your child maybe has gone above and beyond to work extra hard, follow all of the directions or help friends in need. The pink is the best color and this one is "outstanding." This is the hardest color on the positive side to achieve and this means your child has not just had a great day but has done everything they were asked to, followed all directions, did a great job in specials, helped friends, performed good deeds and overall has had an amazing day at school.
