SPRING BREAK NOTES!!! -The date for the Fire Safety House has been changed. The kids will now go one the Safety house on Monday, May 9. Their original permission slips will still work for this new date. -Information about the Zoo Field Trip!
Kids come to school at regular time. The bus does not leave school until 9:45.
We will go to the zoo rain or shine so PLEASE dress your child accordingly to the weather. They need to wear comfortable shoes because they will be walking around all day. You are allowed to pack sunscreen if you think your child will need it and there will be an adult to help with this if needed.
Students need to pack their lunch on this day. There will NOT be a lunch provided to them. We will have regular snack time at school. I would suggest you pack everything in a disposable paper or plastic bag that way it can all be thrown away. They can bring their water bottles and they will either keep them with me or they can carry them around with them or a chaperone (if they are okay with this).
Students DO NOT need to bring money for food, gifts, or rides at the zoo.
Those who stated they would like to be a chaperone on the trip please be aware we only have two parent tickets to give out and the rest of the chaperones will need to drive themselves to the zoo and pay for their own tickets. I will contact the two parents who will be riding on the bus by email. If this changes your decision on wanting to be a chaperone please let me know ASAP! Please also know that if you are a chaperone you will have other students to look after and be responsible for not just your own. I usually give 2-4 kids per chaperone depending on how many chaperones volunteer. The price for an adult to get into the zoo is $14.00 and parking is $5.00 or $3.00 if you go online and pay in advanced.
We will meet up kind of by the gift shop first thing in the morning around 10:00-10:15 and the same place at 1:15 in the afternoon. The bus will leave the zoo at 1:30.
ALL students must ride to and from the zoo on the bus.

Our school is going to have one or two students dress up in their "Easter" best on a specific day and bring in flowers for an altar for Mary that each class will have in their rooms. There will be directions on what work to do and how to do it. Please keep these in a safe place for if we have another snow day. -In kindergarten we are having some trouble with wet socks and boots after the kids come inside from recess or mask break. The students are wanting to change their socks every time because they are wet. This process of changing shoes, boots and sometimes socks is cutting into our academic time. With that being said, please decide with your child one of the following solutions... A. They don't bring boots to school and aren't allowed to play in the snow. There is plenty of dry concrete space for them to play on. B. They bring a change of socks every day to change after they are wet and they need to be taught how to change their socks all on their own. C. They come home with wet socks on their feet every day that they get wet in the snow. We have tried to tell the kids to not go where the snow is deeper than their boots and to try their best to stay dry but it just isn't working. Talk with your child and come up with the best solution you think will work for you. If you think your child will not be able to tell me which decision you have made please email me and let me know. Thank you so much in advance!!!

Friday- Faculty and Staff Day. This is crazy hat day! The kids can wear any hat they would like to with their school uniforms this day. There will be an all school bingo game today!
-The kindergarten students are not allowed to bring toys to school. We are having a small issue with students bringing toys to school and taking them to recess with them, trying to give them away or playing with them at their desks in class. This also includes Pokémon cards. These types of things cause a distraction for the kids and cause hurt feelings when they see other kids trading toys. -February 17 will be parent-teacher conferences. This is not a mandatory conference this time. If there is a concern or questions you might have and want to schedule a conference you will be able to sign up soon. If I would like to meet with you I will be in contact with you in order to schedule a conference and you can sign up for whatever time works best just like you would have for the first conferences. -The kindergarten did a great job on their winter MAP tests. They worked very hard and their scores will be sent home next week. -Our class will have mass next week, February 4. When we go outside sometimes kids are cold so keeping an extra pair would be nice. -The kindergartners are slowly getting into the routine of their Language Arts centers. This is a great time of the year for our class because I get the opportunity to see small groups of kids who are around the same academic levels while other students are busy reading, writing and exploring new sensory stations throughout the room. The students love centers because they get the chance to be more independent and grown up! Be sure to ask your child about centers in the upcoming weeks! -Please be sure to read Mrs. Salamon's newsletter for any school wide updates.
12/06/21-12/10/21 -Next week the kids will be allowed to dress down, dress up and wear Christmas accessories on certain days of the week! The students will pick up with their math lessons and homework after break. -The kindergartners will bring home their blankets, pillows and stuffed animals for good next week! We will not have a nap time after the kids get back from Christmas break for the rest of the year. I tell the students that we are learning to become big first graders and in first grade they don't get a nap time anymore so we need to practice. -Starting in January we will really hit the ground running with our reading skills. The students have been practicing their beginning, middle and ending sounds of three letter words. This will continue into January and we will add onto these skills as the year progresses. The students will begin to have reading homework as well.
11/30/21-12/03/21 -Kindergarten will have mass Wednesday, December 8 instead of Friday, December 10. This is because Wednesday is the Holy Day of the Immaculate Conception of Mary. -The kindergarten class will be shopping at the Santa Shop at school on Thursday, December 9 from 9:30-10:30. I will send home a form for you to fill out the list of people your child is allowed to shop for. If you could return the list and the amount of money needed on Thursday morning that would be great! -If you are able to donate any wrapping paper, gift bags or tissue paper for the students to wrap their gifts that would be greatly appreciated!! -Our Christmas program will be virtual this year due to COVID. The kids will dress up in their Christmas best on December 16 and the parents will be able to watch the video the next day.
11/15/21-11/19/21 -Be sure to check your child's yellow folder every night when they come home. I am noticing some students who have a lot of papers that are in the students folders for days and sometimes weeks. Sometimes there is important information from the office or myself in the folders that you need to see. -I am going to request that the students only bring water in their water bottles they bring to school from now on. We have had a lot of spills in the classroom with water bottles that have juice or Powerade or things of this sort. If you want your child to have anything else besides water they can bring something for snack of lunch time but other then that they need water in their water bottles. Thank you! -Thanksgiving break will be November 24-29. School will resume on Tuesday, November 30. -Our Christmas program will be virtual this year due to COVID. We are teaming up with the women's auxiliary group to put bags together for those in need. The kindergarten class is in charge of bringing in pancake mix for the bags. If you are able to donate a box of pancake mix your child will receive one free dress down day to use only on November 18. If you are unable to purchase a box of pancake mix please email me separately and let me know. We have a few extra boxes that we can let other kids turn in so they can earn a dress down day. We are collecting food from now until the 17. -Our Christmas program will be virtual this year due to COVID. The kids will dress up in their Christmas best on December 16 and the parents will be able to watch the video the next day. -Thanksgiving break will be November 24-29. School will resume on Tuesday, November 30. -Kindergarten will have mass next Friday, November 19. -Be sure to practice your children's sight words at least once a night. You should have received two sets of sight words now. The first set came with an explanation of how to use the sight words and the second set was just a page of four sight words. If you need another set of either please let me know. There isn't any particular way to teach sight words. I always tell the kids they are tricky words who don't follow the rules so we just have to memorize them. Practice and repetition is key to learning these words. -Please continue to look at the weather and be sure to send your child to school with the appropriate coats and anything else they might need to play outside.
11/01/21-11/05/21 -I uploaded some pictures from the Halloween festivities in the pictures tab. The kids had a great time! -Each month one student from each class gets selected to be the student of the month for the school. We are going to keep pushing forward and continue that success and growth into the next quarter! -HAVE A GREAT HALLOWEEN WEEKEND!!!
10/18/21-10/22/21 -There will be no school Monday, October 25. This is a teacher record day. -Report cards will be sent home Friday, October 29. -Our school will celebrate Halloween on Friday, October 29. The students are allowed to bring their costumes in a bag to school with them. I would ask that their costumes be something relatively easy to put on. My aid and I can help the kids but it would be best if they could do it themselves. The school is providing individual treats for the kids and they will get to walk with their class through the gym to get their candy! With COVID we are not allowing parents into the building for the festivities. Our class will enjoy a G rated Halloween movie or some small games in our room. I am sending all of the holiday magazines already and having them due by Monday, November 8. I am doing this early just in case anyone wants to order books for their children for Christmas. Scholastic is taking about 4-6 weeks to send books out so I want everyone to have a chance to order and get books on time for the holidays. Also, they are stating that it might be quicker to order the books to the school address rather than your home address.
10/11/21-10/15/21 -The parent survey that Mrs. Salamon sent out is due this Friday, October 15. They only have the opportunity to dress down from October 18 to the 29 and not if it is a mass day. -There is no school this Friday, October 8. 09/27/21-10/01/21 -As the weather starts to get cold the students are allowed to wear sweaters during the day if they would like. The sweaters just need to match our school uniform. The students can wear a SVDP sweatshirt you may have purchased or just a white or navy sweater to go along with their uniform. -This week I sent home a yellow paper this week that spoke about the new Standard Based Grading the kindergarten-third grade will be using this year. Please let me know if you have any questions about this transition. -The October specials calendar and all calendars from here on out will also have our mass schedule on them. Every other Friday we will be attending mass. -Please make sure you are packing a healthy snack for your child every day. Also, please make sure your child likes the school lunch before you decide they are buying for the week. Sometimes students don't get enough to eat because they won't eat what is on their trays. -Thursday, October 7 will be an all school dress down day. -Friday, October 8 there will be NO SCHOOL!
09/13/21-09/17/21 -Parent-teacher conferences will be held Thursday, September 23 from 3:30-8:00. The conferences will be held virtually. Here is the link to sign up. https://www.ptcfast.com/schools/St_Vincent_de_Paul_Parish_School. I would love to meet with every student's parents in the beginning of the year! -If you are able to donate to the kindergarten reverse raffle basket that would be greatly appreciated! Please copy and paste the following link to see what we still need. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0d44aaab2eaaf58-kindergarten -There will be no school Friday, September 24. -The kindergarten class took their MAP tests this week and did a phenomenal job!! They all should be very proud of themselves! 09/07/21-09/10/21 -ATTENTION!!! I stated some car line information incorrectly at the beginning of the year. Kindergarten parents are not allowed to park across the street to pick up their students if they are a car rider. Only fourth through eighth grade parents are allowed to park across the street from the school. You will need to bring your car through the car rider line through the Walnut street access and you can get there from Market street. I apologize for any inconvenience I may have caused. This is a safety hazard and we want to have every precaution in action in order to keep our students safe. -If your student stays at aftercare you are allowed to park your car in between the church and school when you come to pick them up. Usually this parking lot is close to empty after school hours. -School pictures are Tuesday, September 14. Your child should have received a picture order form in their folders this week. You can send the order form with them on Tuesday or there is an option on there to order pictures online. -Snack time looks a little different now! I wanted to let everyone know we will be eating snack in the cafeteria from now on. The cafeteria has Plexiglas set up in between each student and this gives us better protection for when we are unmasked and eating. -Please continue making sure your child is using the restroom before they come to school. We get right to work after morning announcements and I want everyone focused instead of using the restroom. -The kindergarten class will be MAP testing on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. The kids take these tests on their iPads and they have had chances to mess around with their iPads and get comfortable. We take a reading test and a math test. These tests provide us with great information on where your child sits academically in areas inside of reading and math. I will be going over their scores and what they mean during parent-teacher conferences. If your child misses the test days for any reason they will be able to make it up at a later date. -Parent-teacher conferences will be held Thursday, September 23 from 3:30-8:00. The conferences will be held virtually. Please be on the lookout for the sign up link in Mrs. Salamon's newsletter.
08/30/21-09/03/21 -Our school now has a new mass schedule. Last week there were too many students to be able to safely sit three feet apart from one another. We will have mass every other week now. So the next kindergarten mass will be next Friday, September 10. The students do not have to wear mass day uniforms on days they don't have mass. -Kindergarten is a year for great success and growth. Here are a few things you could be working on at home.....scissors skills, handwriting (correct formation of the letters and how to write the letters on straight lines), coloring and using a glue stick and liquid glue and writing their name correctly (uppercase first letter and the rest lowercase). These may seem like things your child already knows how to do but practice makes perfect and all students are in need of this practice. -Make sure your child is using the restroom before they come to school in the morning. We are having a lot of kids who come to school and need to go to the bathroom and they are missing out on things we need to do to get our day started. -MAP testing starts next week but kindergarten will not be testing until the week of September 13. I will send out more information next week regarding this. -Please remember to check your child's backpack every night. The yellow folder will have things that either need to stay at home or come back to school. Your child's homework journal will have their behavior color marked in it each day. Please look at this every night and mark your initials somewhere in that days box. -When your child has gym class, please send them to school in their gym shoes. We do not have enough time to change shoes before gym class. -Students are allowed to bring a stuffed animal or small pillow with them to school for rest time if they would like. It is not to be used as a toy at school it will only be used for sleeping with. -September 14 will be picture day. More information to follow. -Our school is making Easter baskets for the children serviced by Salvation Army. The library helps fund this project by selling gently used library books for $0.50. We will selling the books September 2-10. The students may purchase these books throughout the week. If you would like your child to purchase any books please send money to school in an envelope or baggie marked "book sale."

If you need some forms let me know and I will send them home with your child in their folder. If your child is a picky eater please make sure they like the lunch that is being provided each day. I don't want anyone to be hungry because they won't eat. -Make sure you are sending a water bottle every day with your child to school. We do have extras if you forget but again, not enough for everyone. -If you have not done so already, please send in a blanket or towel for rest time and an extra pair of clothes for accidents. -Please be sure to send in snacks that are on the healthier side. We eat snack at 9:30 in the morning. -I am placing an extra copy of the specials schedule in all students folders just in case anyone needs another one. -If you ordered Edukits for your child they are no longer being delivered. The factory was exposed to COVID so they are not delivering anything that was not already delivered and you will receive a refund. You will have to buy your child's supplies at the store now. Sorry for the inconvenience for this unforeseen issue. -When your child has gym class, please send them to school in their gym shoes. We do not have enough time to change shoes before gym class. -Students are allowed to bring a stuffed animal or small pillow with them to school for rest time if they would like.
